A Daughter of the King

Maybe I am old-fashioned, boring, or weird. Maybe I am all three. When I get dressed for the day, I don't think to myself, "hmm, I think I'll go for the dorky look today, or maybe I should wear the shirt that says, "Blonde's have all the fun"?" After all, who wants to be taken seriously, right?
I passed someone in a theme park last weekend that was wearing a large black tee-shirt with the word DORK written in big red letters across her chest. I couldn't help but wonder why anyone would ever want to wear a shirt like that. Modesty means humility, not degradation. She was putting herself down...and God. I realize that this is a strong statement, but it is true one. She was letting the world know that she was not happy with herself, therefore she was not happy with her creator. I wonder if any of this crossed her mind before she put on the tee shirt that morning. Still, as I stood there in line for the coaster ride I couldn't help but think...that a daughter of the King would "not wallow in self-pity or make a habit of voicing complaints, but radiates cheerfulness and joy." (Proverbs 15:15, Proverbs 17:22)

The other day I was shopping in some of our local stores when these two tops caught my attention. Now I am all for making an outfit more modest. Sadly it is very hard to find decent clothing at regular clothing stores. But when I saw these two tops I became very annoyed. Yes I wear an undershirt under vee-necks, and long camis under shorter shirts, but that is only because the stores that I buy from make the shirts that way (immodest) and I have to improvise. When I see the clothing companies do this (it's called layering by some) as a new fashion trend, it really starts to bother me. What are your thoughts on this?

It is important for the Christian women to carry herself as a daughter of the King, and to dress accordingly. Be confident in your Maker and satisfied in the way He made you. Because a daughter of the King "is glad she’s a woman and rejoices in her femininity, expressing it through her attitude, appearance and bearing." (1 Timothy 2:9-10)

Please feel free to share with me your thoughts on these issues.
Here is a list of what the Bible defines as real women.

I agree that what we wear says so much about how we feel about ourselves and our creator. I rarely wear shirts that say something, but when I do the saying better be something I really believe in and somthing that uplifts others. I'm amazed at some of the sayings I've seen on shirts and usually feel sorry for the person wearing them because if they only knew that they are literally wearing their insecurities, attitudes, and fears on their sleeve I don't think they would want to project that image.

Thank you for your comment Bonita! :) I like how you put it. "...if they only knew that they are literally wearing their insecurities, attitudes, and fears on their sleeve...". Again thank you.

I think it's so sad that people degrade themselves with clothing - At the same time, sometimes it's an attempt to reclaim the power of a label such as "dork." I have friends who were made fun of in school and now proudly wear the label "geek" - Now that they've claimed it for themselves, no one can hurt them with it. I wish that women would elevate themselves with what they wore instead of degrading themsevles, though
